To understand where depression comes from, it’s first necessary to step back and look at the bigger picture.
You have a flow of raw emotional energy that constantly flows into you. Out of this flow you create your emotions. You think your thoughts and feel your feelings out of this flow of raw energy.
The more you let this flow into your heart, the more alive you feel and the less chance you’ll feel depression. The problem is, we’ve been taught and conditioned from a very early age that emotions are bad and wrong and you should not even have them. And if you do have them, then you need to not feel them. So we learn to shut down our feelings.
Especially the ones we don’t want to feel, like anger and fear and hurt and pity.
But that doesn’t work very well. You can’t just shut down some emotions and let the other ones flow through, because they’re all flowing through the same pathway. When you try to shut out the feelings you don’t want to feel, you’re actually shutting down the entire flow.
But it never works the way you want it to. You can’t really shut out some feelings and not others. So you shut down some more. But that doesn’t work, so you shut down some more.
